Abstract

In this paper, the present author explores book edition and sale throughout Roman history, as well as the target audience of those books and the private and public libraries which stocked them. Some testimonies by classical writers, namely Cicero, Pliny the Younger, Seneca, and Martial, are provided in their original and translated version. Further issues such as book promotion and literacy rate are also tackled.
