Abstract

This paper aims to show by means of the analysis of two Hippocratic treatises, On winds and On the art, both of them to be placed in the very first years of the IVth century B.C., that in using written composition the authors tried to apply oral techniques highly appreciated in social communication. The mixing of oral and written patterns and methods originated not in strictly technical or literary reasons, but because of the social value accorded to the orally performed discourses.
