Abstract

In this paper the semantic value of the terms aÃkoitij and aÃloxoj are analyzed within the Iliad. These terms constitute a motif of constant hesitation in Homeric criticism. The mistake of the traditional interpretation is revealed, and some new values are suggested, especially for aÃloxoj, whose semantic evolution is still perceptible in this poem in three well-delimited stages.
