Abstract

Rafael Proens, a highly reputed goldsmith of Alicante with Majorcan origin (second haif of the 18th. century), had firm relationships with Murcia and the vast Murcian diocese, where he lived a great part of his life and left un extensive and lasting work. This paper focuses on the comission and fulfilment, in 1770 and 1773, of a processional cross and six candelabra (all the pieces in silver) for the parish churches of Santiago and Santa María of the city of Villena. These works were not included, up to date, in the catalogue of the artist. We include, as appendix, the contracts for both comissions.
