<i>EL HERMANO FRANCISCO BAUTISTA Y LA DESAPARECIDA FACHADA DE LA CATEDRAL DE CUENCA</i>
Abstract
Thr personality of the Murciua architect Francisco Bautista is well known. His work along the XVIIth century is important and his integration in the long list of religious architects is quite in harmony with a characteristic period of that century. Father Bautista'constructions, all of them uccomplished in the region where he was born, are considered among the purest of the first half of the XVIIth century, both as regards architecture and the construction of altarpieces, one of his masterpieces bring perhaps the cúpula encamonada. emphasized and recommended by Fr. Lorenzo de San Nicolás. on account of its beauty and economy. This paper completes the biography of the Murcian Jesuit and makes the report known, that he gave out in 1668 at the suggestion of the Chupter of the Cathedral in Cuenca, referring to the work carried out on the main facade of the Cathedral mentioned. The consequence of a badly built, threutening construction, which had been rebuilt several times, was the project und execution of a new one, that finally fell into ruin in 1902.Downloads
