EL RETABLO CATALÁN A TRAVÉS DE LAS OBRAS DE JOSEP SUNYER Y PAU COSTA
Abstract
Along the last three years of the XVIIth century and nearly the first quarter of the XVIIIth one, the most pronounced baroque retables are going to appear in Catalonia. Big sizes, accornodation to the architectural frame with a very deep central street, the existente of two niches in this street and the sculprural richness sometimes hiding the always very baroque architecrure are features of them all. Iconographically they divide in those devoted to the Blessed Virgin and to the Saints, always with a specially worthy treatment of Eucharist. The retables in Prada, Cotlliure, Les Planes, Torelló, Palafrugell and the more recent one in Cadaqués are specially representative of this time. The sculptors Josep Sunyer and Pay Costa, they both related through the same training they followed, worked at all ofthern.Downloads
