Step 2. Plagiarism monitoring

Educatio Siglo XXI is committed to protecting intellectual property and so analyses all works using an antiplagiarism program. The aim of this is to detect whether there are matches with other works and to find out why this might have occurred.

After carrying out the relevant analysis, if there is a level of plagiarism of over 20% without justification, the work will be rejected. These results will be analysed by expert staff to see if they are simply because of chance coincidence or because the corresponding citation is not included. Both the report and the expert’s reflective commentary will be sent to the author so that he or she can argue his or her position with regards to it, so that the journal can establish whether or not it is behaviour connected to plagiarism. If it is, the work will be rejected for review.

The main plagiarism detection program the journal uses is Turnitin. However, when it is deemed appropriate, other complementary plagiarism programs will be used, such as DupliCheker, Plagium o Copyscape.
