Abstract

This study analyzes the content and the representation of the “social” and “political” conflict that characterizes Colombian society, upon whose definition and nature there is no consensus, in a “corpus” of
Social Sciences Secondary School textbooks (grade 9, 10 and 11) published in Colombia for the period between 1999-2011. This content analysis is done from a double perspective. On the one hand, it reviews the diverse conceptions about the Colombian “conflict” in specialized academic and scientific literature. On the other hand, Colombian High School Social Sciences textbooks are analyzed. A content analysis methodology was used to contrast the literature about the “conflict” and how textbooks describe and represent it.
