Reading comprehension strategies for student of Education
Abstract
This study presents the results of several experiments conducted during the last three years with students of the Faculty of Education in Ciudad Real. Those experiences consisted of reading comprehension strategies applied to academic texts. The students’ goal was to automatise the cognitive mechanisms that lead to finding the theme and main ideas of a text without writing it by using study tools such as underlining, making a diagram, making a conceptual map, etc. All these tools should be studied in Primary and Secondary Education, along self-assesssment rubrics in order to improve students’ reading skills.
