Theatre Research from an Educational perspective: challenges and possibilities
Abstract
Current educational laws in Spain that drama schools must be competent in scientific research in their specific areas of knowledge. This fact poses big challenges to education councils, schools, and education communities, especially in light of the past and recent history of this branch of teaching. This is so because, although theatre research in Spain has a remarkable tradition, there are transcendental areas that still lack a basic development. With this article we show possibilities for the implementation and consolidation of a specific and relevant form of theatre research from an educational perspective. This might promote the development of the disciplines in the field, the promotion of a scientific culture in the schools, and the permanent updating of teachers, without forgetting the importance that research
training can have in strengthening the professional skills of graduates in dramatic art. Finally, we emphasise that the development of a research culture in schools of drama is the best guarantee for their effective integration into the European Higher Education Area.
