New contributions to the analysis of the environmental and social effects of mining in Southern Europe

Resumen

Este artículo analiza las distintas teorías que explican la contribución de la minería al desarrollo económico a lo largo de la historia, y los factores que determinan la evolución de dicho sector en el largo plazo. Tras ello, se estudia la influencia que esta actividad productiva tiene en la localización de la actividad económica, especialmente de la industria. A continuación, el trabajo presenta una breve interpretación de la evolución de la minería a lo largo de la Historia, y profundiza en las consecuencias positivas y negativas de ésta en las zonas en las que se lleva a cabo, haciendo hincapié en las condiciones medioambientales, sociales, laborales y de salud. Finalmente, se presentan nuevas contribuciones para el estudio de los efectos socio ambientales de la minería en el sur de Europa durante la industrialización
