Abstract

This article analyzes main social and environmental impacts of non-traditional agricultural exports in the Mexican Bajio region which have supplied U.S. markets with vegetables since the seventies. This agribusiness leaded for transnational firms has contributed to the adoption of high value added crops, new technologies, productivity improvements and increased wage labor demand which is mainly feminine. However, this economic sector is not able to improve income distribution, revalue woman job and protect environment.
