Abstract

All language description needs a model. The analysis of phonological processes that pro-duce the “changes” in a language is no exception. What we are proposing here is a new approach that can address the changes occurring in French from its origins to the current French. To do this, we place ourselves in the context of declarative phonology, following the work carried out in sync mainly by Bird (1991, 1995) and Angoujard (1997, 2006). Diachrony adopt this perspective leads us to refute some points commonly accepted view. Thus, in a strictly “evolutionary” level, when a number n of “change” takes place in the phonological system of a language l, they say that such and such a state language has “evolved” but the reality is that each of these “changes” is the result of an accumulation of parametric variations with respect to a previous state language.
