Abstract

At the beginning of the twentieth century the Espasa encyclopedia launched the most important Spanish editorial initiative regarding the publication of some reference work which has thrown light upon the general scientific evolution of the sciences up to the present time, through the study of said sciences by the different scholars. The BIBLIOGRAFIA headword was one of the selected subjects and proved to be an excellent starting point to inchoate the joint effort of the evolution of science and the Otlet, La Fontaine and the International Institute of Bibliography contributions, as well as their influence upon the birth of the documentation science in Spain. The BIBLIOGRAFIA headword contents as well as its resources as a first hand information tool are analysed.
