This work contains the presentation given by the author on 26 September 2011 at the Inaugural Conference of the degree in environmental sciences at the Faculty of Biology of the University of Murcia.
Becomes a historical journey on the most significant events for the Sierra Minera de Cartagena - La Union, particularly in the Bay of Portman and its environment, as an element more visible and referential from the effects of pollution. Collect references from Roman holdings; also some references in the middle ages and early modern period, focusing on development since the end of century XIX with the resurgence of mining in the area and delving into the latest resurgence of mining in the 1950s decade until the closure of the mining activities in the early 1990s; reaching date of the conference with the proposal for development and environmental recovery for the Portman Bay and its surroundings.
Explains that after the final approval of the project (point 53 Council of the 28072011), this has retained and supervised the appropriations for the next four years 2012-2015, since the budgetary implementation 23-06-456-601, for 79.402.304,42 euros.
