Singing what is lost: Juan Eduardo Cirlot’s The book of Carthage
Abstract
The main aim of this work is to analyse El libro de Cartago by poet and symbologist Juan Eduardo Cirlot. To this end, we will proceed to the hermeneutic analysis of the different poems that make up the book, as well as to the genetic analysis of the manuscripts and correspondence that preceded its publication in 1947. Specifically, we will focus on the symbol embodied by the city of Carthage as an emblem of lost greatness and the ontological quest of the poetic voice.
