Abstract

Nowadays it is obvious that Trade Unions are facing a complicated situation. In this article we are going to analyze their own evolution throughout time, the role they have played in the different historical moments and their presence and protagonism in the so-called Welfare State societies that today are affected by a tremendous economical crisis. From their beginning until the present time, they have been influenced by a series of variables. Sometimes, those variables are political, other times economical and most of the time, they are both. These have conditioned their weight and positioning in society. All this is going to be revised in the following lines.
