THE CITY AND THE RIVER IN THE LOW "SEGURA" BASIN
Abstract
The progressive use of the Segura river and the risk of flooding derived from its hydrological features determine the transformation of urban developments on its banks (towns of Murcia, Orihuela and Rojales). These relationships are basically defensive and their aesthetic aspects have become degraded as the water flow has completely disappeared. The urbanistic and defensive measures have evolved through time, and under the influence of the peculiarities of each urban nucleus.
