Abstract

Study of ethnicity offers no neutral ground for anthropologists to work. Current theories like neo-marxism, constructivism, postmodernism, positionality theory or subaltern theory argue that ethnic regionalisms are increasing worldwide in step with globalization processes, thereby exploring the ways ethnicity is responsive to all kinds on large-scale institutional forces. However most scholars often ignore the troubling implications of the perspectives they advocate for the structure of their professional organizations and their professional practices. I will make this point with an extended example drawn from my own experience of the anthropological study of ethnicity in Spain.
