Abstract

This paper discuss the ideas of Political Ecology and how social anthropology has contributed to it. Political Ecology focuses on the social and political factors affecting the use of resources. These factors are the same ones that are causing considerable environmental degradation in many different parts of the world, which is due to a combination of two processes: the accumulation of capital and impoverishment. Political ecology renews ecological anthropology by making it reflect on and analyse problems that are central to our time.
