FROM THE OPEN AIR SCHOOLS TO THE CLASSROOMS IN NATURE
Abstract
In this article we study the origin and development of the open air schools and their relationship with the pedagogic renovation and the environmental education. The open air schools appeared in the first years of the 20th Century as a place where the education and the health of children are addressed simultaneously. Because these schools are always situated in a natural environment they support the introduction of studies of nature and contents of sciences in their programs, from an innovative conception of teaching. In Spain, Rosa Sensat initiated in 1914 the forest school in Montjuich, and it meant a valid precedent of present classrooms in nature.
