Evangelize assimilating: the fray Hernando de Talavera’s catechizing labour over moriscos
Abstract
This paper will afford some of the most relevant aspects of the evangelizing labour of fray Hernando de Talavera over moriscos. We will analyze the sociocultural origin of Talavera’s thinking about conversion. The originality of Talavera’s project is based on finding the need of homogenizing the population under the Christian values as the key to be the factor of assimilation that could allow the ratification of Isabel and Fernando’s monarchy.
