Immigration and metropolisation in Barcelona
Abstract
Today, Catalonia is concerning by 22% of the immigration to Spain and 2/3 of this migration is concentrated inside the Metropolitan Region of Barcelona (MRB), and 670 000 migrants are settled inside the MRB. This article aims to illustrate the participation of the migrants to the development of metropolis by the analysis of the historical evolution of the characteristics of the immigrant’s settlements inside the municipalities of the MRB. Based on the 2007 Population registry and on abundant literature about immigration in this city, the objective of this paper is to set up a typology of the different spaces of immigration and dynamics of the migration system of Barcelona.Downloads
