Abstract

This paper deals with the economic thought in Spain throughout the first decades of the nineteenth century. Consideration is given to Gonzalo de Luna’s writings on monetary economics. A series of distinctive theoretical concepts were developed by this author in order to present a constructive review of Adam Smith’s economic thought. The arguments presented in this paper aim at illustrating Gonzalo de Luna’s model of monetary circulation that allowed him to sustain his recommendations of economic policy and to reject the classical school’s monetary program.
