Abstract

This paper describes the usefulness of echocardiography to evaluate the severity of the disease in 38 dogs diagnosed of chronic mitral valve disease. Two-dimensional and M-mode echocardiography allow to visualizate the thickeness of mitral valve leaflets. The left wall systolic thickness, the left atrium/aorta ratio and shortening fraction showed a statistical positive correlation with the functional clinical stage.
