Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • Before uploading the manuscript to the application, make sure that it does not include data that identifies authors. Later, in Metadata, the first full name will be included (without initials, all lowercase minus the first letter), both in the area in Spanish and English.
  • Make sure that the text and references of the manuscript follow APA standards, especially format of statistical symbols, citations and references. It will not go to review until this is correct.
  • Check that every author quote in the text has its Bibliographic Reference at the end, and every reference corresponds to its quote or quotes in the text. No appointment without reference. No reference without appointment. It will not go to review until this is correct.
  • Before uploading the manuscript to the application, you must have prepared, in English and Spanish: title (the text of the title should not include all the capitalized words), keywords and summary.
  • Have prepared (to include later in Metadata) the code ORCID (mandatory), email and affiliation of each author. All authors must be included in Metadata. It will not go to review until this is correct.
  • Have the list of bibliographic references ready, leaving blank space between them. Later, in the Citations area of the application, you will need to paste the aforementioned list of References, making sure to leave a blank space (with Enter) between each reference. It will not go to review until this is correct.
  • Prepare a pdf file that includes: (1) affiliation data of all authors, (2) Declaration of absence of conflicts of interest, (3) List of 3-5 possible reviewers who are experts in the subject of the work, (4) Research funding data, if any, (5) Acknowledgments, if any, (6, optional) any comments that the author would like to make to the editor. This file will be uploaded once the process is completed and the work has been successfully uploaded to the application; When you access your work again, in the “Pre-Review Discussions” area, click “Add Discussion” and upload the pdf file. It will not go to review until you upload this file.
  • - Have prepared a pdf file that includes: (1) affiliation data of all authors, (2) Declaration of absence of conflicts of interest, (3) List of 3-5 possible expert reviewers on the subject of work, (4 ) Research funding data, if any, (5) Acknowledgments, if any, (6, optional) any comments the author wishes to make to the editor. This file will be uploaded once the process is finished and the job has been successfully uploaded to the application; when you access your work again, in the “Pre-review discussions” area, click on “Add discussion” and upload the pdf file. 1) GENERAL INFORMATION

1.1. Type of manuscripts

Annals of Psychology [Anales de Psicologia] publish manuscripts in all areas of psychology. Manuscripts must be original and have not been published totally or partially in other journals.

Authors can submit to this journal: (a) Original manuscripts for publication, and/or (b) to propose a special issue. See details in the section of Structure and organization of the different types of manuscripts.

2.1. Presentation format and publication charge for authors 

  • Language: The manuscript can be written in English or Spanish. If the work is accepted, it must be translated into English for publication. All articles will be published in English in the printed version. In the online version it can also be published simultaneously in Spanish, as long as the authors request it.
  • Journal style for manuscripts: APA style, from Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 7th edition, 2020 (https://apastyle.apa.org/style-grammar-guidelines/index)
  • Style for empirical manuscripts: The authors of empirical work must follow the recommendations in Statistical Methods in Psychology Journals: Guidelines and Explanations, from Wilkinson and the APA Task Force on Statistical Inference, published in the journal American Psychologist (1999, 54,594-604) which is available on https://www.apa.org/pubs/journals/releases/amp-54-8-594.pdf. They must report confidence intervals and measures of effect size for all statistical results.
  • Digital format: The paper will be sent for evaluation as a PDF document. Once accepted for publication in the journal, you will send the final version in Microsoft Word for Windows, in order to facilitate the layout of the printed edition.
  • Maximum length of work: it should not exceed 8000 words including all sections listed below according to the type of contribution.
  • Number of files: A single pdf file will be sent initially with the manuscript of the article without author data or affiliation. Once the manuscript submission process in the web application is finished, the author must access his work in the web application again, and in the “Pre-review discussions” area, click on “Add discussion” and upload another pdf file that It will include: (1) affiliation data of all authors, (2) Declaration of absence of conflicts of interest, (3) List of 3-5 possible expert reviewers on the subject of work, (4) Research funding data , if any, (5) Acknowledgments, if any, (6, optional) any comments the author wishes to make to the editor.
  • Charge for authors: Once the manuscript is accepted, authors will receive instructions to pay 216 euros (+ tax) for costs of printing and publishing (for manuscripts submitted after March 24, 2015). The manuscript will not be published until the author has made the payment.

 

2.2. Structure and organization of the manuscripts

Each manuscript submitted to Annals of Psychology [Anales de Psicologia] must have a specific structure. Manuscripts that do not meet these conditions will be returned directly to the authors without possibility of continuing the review process.

Empirical studies.-Each manuscript should clearly present the problem statement, objectives, design and the method used, the results and discussion of the results, ending with the most relevant conclusions for psychological practice; in addition, the conclusions should include the limitations and future prospects of the study.

 

Experimental, quasi-experimental, and correlational studies.- This type of study should include the following sections: Introduction, Methods (Design, Participants, Instruments, Procedure and Statistical Analysis), Results, Discussion and Conclusion, and References. Tables and figures must follow the APA format and they will be presented in separated pages at the end of the text after the references pages.

Special care should be taken in the Participants and Results sections. Where the authors must fully describe the sample/s used in the study and specify whether it was incidental or random. If missing data have occurred, they should specify their percentage and how they have treated the missing data; e.g., dropping cases or using some method of imputation.

A study only provides information on the gender variable (% of male and female) and age (mean and standard deviation) can hardly pass the filter of Editorial Team for later review.

Any work that lacks a Statistical Analysis section with and explanation of the method used and the statistical criteria to evaluate the goodness of fit of the models used will not be published. Statistical Analysis Section should not go in the Procedure section or Results.

The presentation of statistical results should clearly include the name of the test, degrees of freedom, p-value that was significant, the confidence interval and statistical effect size (e.g., Cohen's d, ω2, among others). Meta-analysis studies.- A meta-analysis is a quantitative review of the literature in order to answer a clearly formulated questionas determining the effect of a treatment, or prevention training program, find risk factors (or protection) getting a disorder, and generally to estimate relationships between variables and moderating variables. A key topic has to do with the search engines used to retrieve papers that include the required information, which are essential to the proper use of this technique. Therefore, authors should explicitly specify the databases used and how it has made finding work (keywords). The search must be comprehensive, incorporating more recent works, and should present the results obtained in terms of a flow chart according to the PRISMA statement (http://www.equator-network.org/reporting-guidelines/prisma/).

The structure of a meta-analysis should be: Introduction, Method (study selection criteria, search procedures for studies, coding of variables, index / s of effect size and statistical analysis), Results, Discussion and Conclusion, and References. The references used directly for the meta-analysis are highlighted with an asterisk (*) in the list of references.

 

Systematic reviews.- A systematic review is a synthesis of research on a particular aspect important of psychology and on which there is sufficient information either qualitative or quantitative to conduct the review. In this sense, except in the presentation of results, follow the same course of action in the meta-analysis. In this case, databases used to compile studies and keywords that allow their inclusion in the study will be of special interest. Authorswill present the results of the search in a flowchart of the PRISMA statement (see above). The sections that must appear in a qualitative systematic review are: Introduction, Method (Criteria for selecting studies for search and coding of variables), Results, Discussion and Conclusion, and References. The references used directly for the review are highlighted with an asterisk (*) in the list of references.

If the systematic review is about psychometric properties of a psychological scale, the study may include a study of the quality of these psychometric properties with a scale built ad hoc for this study or using any other method (e.g., COSMIN group http://www.cosmin.nl/).

 

Psychometric studies.- Annals of Psychology [Anales de Psicologia] regularly publish studies about psychometric validation of new scales or adapted to Spanish or other languages. The structure of a psychometric study must be: Introduction (including objectives and rationale for validation), Method (Participants, Instruments, Procedure, and Statistical and Psychometric Analysis), Results, Discussion and Conclusion, and References. If the study includes an exploratory factor analysis, it is advisable to consult two recently published papers in our journal:

For a study of the adaptation of a scale, it must clearly explain the back-translation process used. Manuscripts should contain evidence of empirical validity (concurrent, convergent and discriminant) with other scales. If clinical diagnostic criteria or performance (cut scores) are included, preference will be given to those studies that provide evidence of the sensitivity and specificity, and provide psychometric norms.

 

Methodological papers.- Annals of Psychology [Anales de Psicologia] supports the presentation of methodological studies that show through theoretical and mathematical developments and/or simulation, properties of some procedures for which there are not available a solution directly implemented. These studies will be clearly highlighting the need for the study, the problem solving and its possible implementation for psychological practice. Given the eminently practical orientation of this journal, methodological studies that do not involve a clear improvement of the procedures used to date will not be accepted.

 


Qualitative studies.- Works involving the use of qualitative methodologies are also welcome in Annals of Psychology. In this case, we will follow the same pattern of an empirical study, but should take special care in collecting the data, the coding system used, ensuring a review of the category system by external researchers to own study, description of the group of participants, and the use of appropriate data for such statistical techniques, where appropriate, such as interrater reliability coefficients and methods based on chi-square test for qualitative data.

 

Theoretical studies.- Annals of Psychology [Anales de Psicologia] also publish theoretical studies related to an essential aspect of any area of psychology with special relevance or practical utility for professionals. The theoretical studies will be commissioned by the editorial team, and exceptionally will be accepteddepending on the quality of the study in the opinion of the editorial team. This study must be organized in: Introduction (review objective approach to the subject), Development of theoretical content, Conclusions and References.

 

Special issues.- Annals of Psychology will publish annually (within a regular issue) a monographic issue with a maximum length of eight studies of which at least 4 will be empirical (experimental, quasi-experimental, correlational, systematic review and meta-analysis). The proposal should include the title, a summary of its main objectives and contents, name (and contact) of the coordinator of the special theme, an index of manuscripts, indicating authors (contact address) and titles. The Editorial Team will consider the proposal and will take decision to accept or reject this monograph. If accepted, the manuscripts must follow the rules for original manuscripts presented above.

 

2.3. Previous changes in manuscript file, before uploading to journal website

- Fit the manuscript to specific format and style of the journal.

The first page should appear left justified:

• The article title (lowercase except the first letter, without italics or bold)

No authors or affiliation data should appear because that version will be the one read by the reviewers

An abstract with an extension not exceeding 200 words, both in English and Spanish.

• Between 4 and 8 keywords, separated by a semicolon. The abstract in Spanish must contain the same keywords (Palabras Clave) translated to Spanish. To maximize the visibility of the study, authors must be very careful in choosing keywords, in such a way that keywords must appear in the title, abstract, and the text of the study. This will facilitate the search for the study in the usual search engines.

In the text:

• The titles or headings are not numbered. The first level (Introduction, Methods, Result, Discussion and Conclusions, and References) will be justifiedto the left and in bold). The second level (Participants, Procedure, etc.) will be indented 1 cm, in bold. The third level are indented 1 cm.,in italics.

• The text is preferably in size 12 Times New Roman, 1.5 spacing with no space before and after. Before and after each title there is a space.

• Every author's appointment in the text must have its bibliographic reference at the end, and any reference corresponds to its quotation or quotations in the text. No appointment without reference. No reference without appointment. The manuscript will not be sent for review if this is not correct.

• Notes should preferably include footnotes. Only in justified cases will the end of the text, before the list of references.

Tables and figures:

Tables and figures, and their corresponding titles and legends, will be presented on separate pages after references. They will be numbered in sequential order from 1 and must always quote the immediately preceding text, with uppercase t and f in the first letter of Table or Figure (e.g., Table 1, Figure 1, …).

For Tables and Figures, the title must be at the top, on one line the text Table X or Figure X in bold, and on the next line the legend in italics. Tables should follow APA style (no visible vertical lines).

References

All references are inserted in the text (not footnotes) and alphabetically arranged at the end under the heading "References." All appointments will be subject to the rules of the American Psychological Association (APA) in its Publication Manual (6th ed., Washington, 2010). These rules must be followed precisely and the originals will be returned for corrections if all are not met.

 

- Fit the manuscript and PDF file for peer review:

Delete any information that can identify the authors. To verify that no data on "author" and "subject" (that should not see the sender of the study, to preserve anonymity), locate the file using Windows Explorer, locate the mouse over the file name and when it appears in data box, make sure that it is not the author's name. Then, in this case with the cursor over the file, right click, go to Properties, then to summary and there removing that data (if any).

 

3) SEND FILES OF ORIGINAL WORK TO JOURNAL WEBSITE

The authors must access the magazine's website at http://revistas.um.es/analesps/. There they will click on the "Make a submission" button.

 

On the next screen click on “Manage your submissions”, and on the next screen click on “New submission”. Then a new screen appears in which you have to follow five successive steps:

1. Start

- In Submission language, we select the language in which the original manuscript is (Spanish or English)
- In Section we must select "Articles"
- In Submit as, we mark Author
- Before saving and continuing, mark the copyright agreement and the consent for data processing
- Finally click on Save and continue

2. Upload submissionHere, when you click on “Select the article component”, “Article text” appears and we click on that phrase. Then a “Upload file” button appears, we click on it and follow the process to upload the pdf of the manuscript. Once the process is finished, click on Save and continue.

3. Enter metadata. Here you enter the data of all the authors, title, summary, keywords, etc., which will then appear in the online publication.

- It is mandatory to complete the sections with * and also do it in English and Spanish. Initially we see only one window, but clicking on it displays both (Spanish and English). Do not put anything in "Prefix" or "Subtitle".

- In the area of ​​Authors and collaborators / List of Contributors, to fill in the data you have to click on the small blue triangle that we see on the left. Then we will see an Edit / Edit link, we click on it. In the new window we are putting data of: Name (of author), in Spanish and English (it will be correct when the small icon of the planet appears in green), Country, User details (here the code ORCID, which is mandatory) and Affiliation . It is not necessary Biographical summary. In ORCID mark the "Send an e-mail to request authorization ...". With this you will receive a verification email of ORCID code that you will have to complete. Finally click on Save.
If there are more authors, in the Authors and collaborators / List of Contributors area, on the right click on Add collaborator / Add Contributor to repeat the process for each author

- Fill in keywords / keywords. It is important that after each keyword you press the Enter key (do not eat or;)

- In References / References the list of bibliographic references of the manuscript must be inserted. It is important to prepare such a list so that there is a blank space between each one. This can be done automatically in word, by selecting the list, pressing Ctrl + L, placing the cursor on Search, clicking on More +, on the Special button by clicking once on 1. Paragraph mark, then clicking on Replace with, click on Special and 1. Mark Paragraph, and again click on Special and 1. Mark Paragraph. Finally click on Replace all.

- Click on Save and continue.

4. Confirmation

Click in Finish Submission

5. Upload pdf file with necessary complementary data

We will go to Submission zone, and then we will click on the name of the authors of the manuscript. Another screen will open in which we will find the link at the top right, and in Submission Library, we will click on Add a File, an then click on Reports. Write a file name, in Type choose Permission, and upload file. This will be a pdf file containing: (1) data of affiliation of all authors, (2) Declaration of absence of conflicts of interest, (3) List of 3-5 possible reviewers who are experts in the field of work, (4) Research funding data, if any, (5) ) Acknowledgments, if any, (6, optional) any comments the author wishes to make to the editor.

Close that window by clicking on Ok

There ends the process of uploading the manuscript.

6. Subsequent phases of author / editor communication

If the Editor then requests corrections from the author, or the author has to contact the Editor, this can be done at all stages of the process:

- If the manuscript revision process is in the initial Submission phase, the editor may request that the metadata area be revised (name and surname, orcid, affiliation, add all authors, etc.). To do this, in that Submission area, click on the name of the authors, and then in the upper right area of the screen, enter View Metadata.

- If the process goes through the Review phase, then it will be through the area Review Discussions. Once accepted, communication (within the web application) with the Editor will be in the area Copyediting Discussions, or Production discussions

When the author - Editor communication within the web application is not effective, an email must be sent to analesps@um.es: analesps@um.es

4) IN CASE OF ERRORS IN THE INITIAL SUBMISSION TO THE WEBSITE OF THE JOURNAL

  Once the submission is done, if you observe any error or omission of data, you should not create a new submission but return to the original submission and make the corrections there. To do this, on the main page click on the button "Make a submission" and then on the link "View your pending submissions". There you can make the rectifications.

This is the procedure that must be followed to address the corrections suggested by the Editor or the Reviewers.

 

5) PROCESS MONITORING AND EVALUATION OF ORIGINAL MANUSCRIPT 

Acknowledgement and sent to referees: The system itself active magazine website acknowledgment. Then, the Editorial Team will review the format, style and editorial policy; the study may be returned for corrections or rejected. Manuscripts that violate APA rules will be returned immediately to the authors. Compliance with these standards is the responsibility of the authors and therefore the journal will not detail the breaches. Once the manuscript has been rectified, the study can be reevaluated until it meets standards.

The manuscript will be reviewed in advance in accordance with the use of Standard English. If the authors are not native English Speakers, the use of native translators is recommended. At the request of the authors, the journal will provide contact with independent translators that will ensure correct English. The cost of the translation or revision of works into English shall be borne by the authors. Regardless of the quality of the manuscript, this may be rejected if it does not use simple and correct English.

Once past the filters of format and quality of the study and the English used (maximum one month), the  study will be sent to two referees/experts on the topic of the original study, and alsoin its methodology in case of empirical studies; the study may be returned for corrections or rejected.

 

Method of review: The referees are external and selected by the Editorial Team; referees will be issued a proposal about the quality of the study; if necessary they will suggest appropriate corrections. The screening method used is double-blind (anonymous author and referees), a member of the Editorial Team being responsible for establishing contact between both. If thestudy is acceptedfor review, the final report will be issued within a period of six months. Referees can obtain an accreditation certification upon request).

 

Results of the review: The result of the evaluation process may be: (a) Acceptance of the article, (b) acceptance conditional on the implementation of corrections, (c) requiring corrections and further re-evaluation of the reviewer, and (d) rejection. Any of these reports, with the rationale necessary, will be sent to the authors by e-mail. In case of corrections, authors will have until three months to carry out corrections; after this time if the journal has not had a response, the manuscript will be definitely rejected. If the manuscript is accepted for publication in Annals of Psychology [Anales de Psicologia], an acceptance certificate will be sent to the authorsandwill be publishedas scheduledinthe journal.

When the journal has an excess of manuscripts under review, with the consequent danger of undue delay even from the date of acceptance or publication, the Editorial Team can make an initial selection process (in one or two months after the reception of the work) according to criteria such as: relevance to the editorial policy, central topics in psychology, novel or original contribution, or authors do not have any previous article under review in the journal.

 

Monitoring the process: The authors can follow the evaluation process on the website of the journal (OJS system with their username and password, http://revistas.um.es/analesps).

 

Publication and reprints of the manuscript: Before sending the manuscript accepted to press, authors will receive proofs to the last spelling correction. Once the article is published, the author will receive a reprint in the web edition of the journal in pdf format (which retains shape and pagination of the paper publication).
