WOMAN AND COHABITATION IN THE ROMAN SOCIETY
Abstract
Concubinage was in Roman Law the regular union between a man and a woman without affectio maritalis. It must not get confused with a marriage situation. On the other hand the concept of stability distinguishes it what will be a simple sexual relation. It was not punished by law, being admitted into the social conscience of the epoch. The matrimonial laws of Augusto, Lex Iulia et Papia Poppaea, Lex Iulia de Adulteriis, contributed to its diffusion. During the clasical period the concubinage was no object of juridica regulation, althought it were so with the christians emperors. Take place a evolution in the conception of concubinage and will culminate with an advantageous treatment and a greater comparison respect to the married state.Downloads
