Review of effect of high intensity training on physical perfomance in football players

Abstract

In recent years there has been particular interest in the application of High-Intensity Interval Training (HIT) in different sports. The purpose of this study was to systematically review studies on high-intensity interval training and its effect on physical performance in high-level player. This requires a systematic review through search commands in 4 databases was performed: PUBMED, SCOPUS, SPORTDiscus and DIALNET. 5 inclusion criteria were stipulated: themed bounded, update, indexing, language and degree of professionalization of sports work context.  A total of 17 of the 243 initial papers resulted from the review. The data obtained indicated that the application of high-intensity interval training has positive effects on physical performance of high-level players in 14 of the 17 investigations. VO2max is the selected performance indicator in most papers. HIT, SIT and small games-sided are the most used training situations... The duration of the training ranged between 10 days and 12 weeks.
