Abstract

Among the determinants of physical fitness, muscle strength is an important biological predictor of general health from childhood. The aim was to analyze the relationship between muscle strength and others parameters of physical fitness.A relational descriptive design was implemented, evaluating isometric upper body strength, explosive lower body strength, aerobic capacity and speed-agility through ALPHA-fitness test battery of a sample of 512 students (284 women) between 8-11 years. The muscle strength index was calculated. The results show that muscle strength is associated positively with the speed-agility and aerobic capacity. School with a higher level of muscle strength index showed higher levels of speed-agility and aerobic capacity. The results of this research suggest that school children with a better level of muscle strentghhave also higher levels of speed-agility (motor capacity) and aerobic capacity.
