If They Are the Fields: A Bourdieusian Acoustics
Abstract
Performing an interdisciplinary gaze — endowed with a certain artistic intention — to the main concepts of Pierre Bourdieu's social theory, allows us to surrender ourselves to a series of improbable findings. The consolidation of artistic research as an autonomous research practice thus appears as a field of desirable indeterminacy from which we can make an account. Following our experiment, we introduce the tactics for not-knowing developed by the artist researcher Emma Cocker in her preparation for the unexpected, as well as the art research project Reading on Reading. With them we pursue seeking tools of analysis for a Bourdieusian acoustics, based on the distinction of reading behaviours established by the French sociologist.
