Abstract

This article is part of a broader study of the reference manual entitled Social History of Spanish Literature (Written in Castilian Language) (1978), a work important to take into account in order to understand the transformations of the field of hispanism and the relationships between the political and the academic fields during the Spanish Transition to democracy. The current article focuses, first of all, in the reception of the work in the media, in particular the controversy that took place when the work was attacked in El País. Furthermore, the article describes the reception of peers, specifically Mainer, Sobejano and González Boixo. Before the exposition, the text will summarize some considerations about the authors, the work and the causes of its success.
