Abstract

The Order of Cistercians expanded in the Kingdom of León in the second half of the 12th century. This expansion has been largely supported by nobility. My work will examine how the Cistercian reform was supported by Ponce de Cabrera and his daughter Sancha Ponce in Santa María de Moreruela and San Esteban de Nogales monasteries. I will also explore the relationship that tied Ponce de Cabrera’s family with those monasteries for some generations afterwards.
