Abstract

This article aims to analyse the Almoravid social elite in Lleida from their arrival in 1102, until their disappearance in 1146. Through the Latin documentation, we recompile data that identify the local Almoravid elite, their consolidation in power and the material instruments they used to strengthen this. Lastly, the analysis of the Arab toponymy and the medieval archaeology has facilitated the identification of Almoravid rural settlements in the Lleida district, an innovation that is complemented by documentary research to study the social elite.
