Social fabric and networks of sociability within the valencian confraternal movement: the confraternity of Saint James of Valencia (1377-1441)
Abstract
The following article seeks to establish an overview of the Valencian confraternal movement through the study of the first association that was founded in the kingdom, the Confraternity of Saint James in Valencia. The importance of the brotherhood for the city is determined by its historical and institutional development, as well as by its social composition, dealt with in two separate sections. A prosopographical review of the two lists of brothers (1377-1441) arises from a socio-political perspective, seeking to identify the governmental elites of the Valencian municipality, perfectly represented in this association, the only permitted by royal legislation at different times of the 13th and 14th centuries.Downloads
