The Kingdom of León and the Order of Pereiro-Alcántara (1168-1230)
Abstract
At some point between 1168 and 1172 it was born the order of Pereiro as a community of friars. Before 1183, the brotherhood would have been militarized as part of the project of Fernando II of giving political and economic viability to the kingdom of Leon that he had inherited in 1157. Since that time, the Order is set to other realms, especially in Castile where it appears with the name of Order of Trujillo. Its entry into the Cistercian Order, its conversion into the Order of Pereiro-Alcántara by the 1218 agreement, its subject to the Order of Calatrava and its role in the unification of the kingdoms of Castile and Leon in 1230, are some of the issues that will be analysed in this text.Downloads
