Some considerations on the activity of Pamplona cathedral chapter during the episcopate of Arnaldo of Barbazán (1318-1355)
Abstract
In the first half of the 14th century, while the episcopal see of Pamplona was under the governance of one of its most illustrious bishops, Arnaldo of Barbazan, the last stones of the magnificent Gothic cathedral cloister of Pamplona – which has been preserved to this day – were laid. Undoubtedly, the members and dignitaries of the cathedral chapter of Pamplona witnessed – and some even actively promoted – this fabulous architectural project. The cloister was a place of fundamental importance in the lives of the canons, not only as a place of daily transit, but also for being the setting for different liturgical ceremonies, processions and finally it was conceived as a burial site.Downloads
