Nebrija, poeta áulico: la Peregrinatio Regis et Reginae ad Sanctum Iacobum. Edición, traducción y estudio
Abstract
In 1486, the Catholic Monarchs visited Santiago de Compostela. After their pilgrimage to St. James’ tomb, they decided to travel to Salamanca in order to meet Antonio de Nebrija, herald of what he deemed an unquestionable Spanish preeminence. Encouraged by Hernando de Talavera, the famous humanist wrote a Latin poem celebrating the Royal journey to Santiago de Compostela; furthermore, Nebrija also announces an inminent end to the Reconquista thanks to St. James’ support. In addition to the edition and translation of the poem, we include some valuable comments: some of them focus on the historical facts and the special atmosphere of those years, while others concentrate on Nebrija’s literary and political ideals.Downloads
