Abstract

This research aims to delve into the first stage of the prolonged conflict faced the monastery of Sahagún and the Cathedral of León for the charge of jurisdictional rights, in order to underline the interest of falsifications as parts of irreplaceable value for the historian. To achieve this I use several lines of analysis that recent researches in the interdisciplinary tendency known as social history of the written culture have shown for the study and use of the profuse work of documental forgery that was developed in the Hispanic kingdoms in the High Middle Ages. The conclusions reached allow recognize the different parcels of institutional memory favoured of this documentary handling process.
