MARIE-ANNE COLLOT (1748-1821), UNA ARTISTA FRANCESA EN RUSIA
Abstract
The uinique French woman-sculptor of the 18th c. Marie-Anne Collot (1748-1821) is known first of all as a co-author of the famous sculptor Ettienne-Maurice Falconet (1716-1791), her compatriot and teacher. She acompanied him in his travel to Russia in 1766-1778 and helped him in his grandiose work on the equestrian statue to Peter the Great - first Russian Emperor and founder of Saint Petersburg, new capital of Russia. It was she who could sculpture the head of Emperor, because she was above her teacher as a portraitist. She made it monumiental and captured the likeness at the same time. Empress Catherine 11 valued highly the talent of Collot. A hole gollery of portraits of Empress and her courtiers was created by the artisr in S. Petersburg. Her main works are represented in many museums of Russia. Hermitage possesses the best collection of Cullot's sculpture.Downloads
