The place where the Total Work of Art comes true. La conexión entre Richard Wagner y los parques Disney
Abstract
Today certain terms such as hybridization, transmedia storytelling, intertextuality, etc. dominate the visual arts due to the convulsive nature of the postmodern era and its opposition to absolute truths. The purpose of this article, based on previous PhD thesis research, is to highlight the relationship between two ways of understanding hybridization in spheres which are widely separated in time as well as in terms of their place within the art world: Richard Wagner’s Total Art concept and the ideas behind Walt Disney’s theme parks. We shall analyze the similarities between both artists and build a bridge between the art of the elite and the art of the masses.
