Arte y Ciencia: El Atlas Marítimo de España de Vicente Tofiño de San Miguel
Abstract
The article notes the coexistence of art and science in Spanish nautical cartography of the 18th century, dedicating our research to the study of aesthetic of one of the main works of the national cartographic production, Vicente Tofiño de San Miguel’s Atlas Marino de España. The detailed study of each letter, view or port plane belonging to Atlas, allows us to extract not only its geographical, territorial and scientific information, in it we find ornamental elements, with a clear artistic and aesthetic value, overlooked so far.
