About the Journal

Scope and content

Imafronte is the Art History journal of the Department of Art History at the University of Murcia. It was founded in 1985 and has been published exclusively in digital format since 2018. This is an open access journal that provides its full-text content immediately and freely, based on the principle that unrestricted access to research results fosters greater global knowledge exchange. All issues of the journal are accessible through its digital platform.

The journal welcomes contributions from researchers in the international scientific community working on topics related to Art History. It publishes articles in Spanish, English, French, German, and Italian. Its target audience includes the university community: researchers, scholars, and professionals in the field of Art History, as well as all individuals interested in the journal’s thematic scope. Imafronte is an annual publication.

The journal publishes original research articles on any aspect of Art History in its various dimensions: architecture, sculpture, painting, engraving, design, mass media imagery, video, illustration, manuscript illumination, glyptics, numismatics, medal art, performing arts, or any other field in which the image constitutes the object of study. Since visual culture requires an interdisciplinary approach, Art History may intersect with related disciplines such as History, Archaeology, Geography, and Fine Arts.
