Abstract

In this work, I will present a general overview of the situation of indigenous women in Panamá. As indigenous women we have a long way to go in order to move from theory topractice, from rhetoric to action and from rights to accomplishments. At the dawn of the XXIst century indigenous women have made great strides in the social, cultural, economic and political life of Panama. We have shown that we are able to demand our rights as women and as indigenous people. Despite this, indigenous women remain doubly vulnerable both in their role as individuals and as the indigenous collective. In this sense, strengthening women’s rights, principally human rights and the defense of indigenous rights will benefit the development of our entire society.
