No. 2 (2013): Water: the discursive construction of a conflict

Water is a natural resource, it is part of life and the ecosystem. But is also a social resource, and as such it is subjected to social considerations. Thus, our perception of water depends on the use we made of it and the values we project to it. This usage and these values are justified through the discourse. This paper reflects on the construction of a conflict which has crystallized in a regional identity. An identity created around water and the defense of interests that have led to an intra and inter-regional rivalry.

It addresses water policies that were developed during the last century, It highlights major discourses which have taken place in the Region of Murcia and it also emphasizes the importance of the dominant ideology as owner of the media.
