Abstract

The paper tries to examine the reception given in Spain to Shakesparean adaptions for the screen, both recent and past up to 1998. It covers the critical reviews published in the daily press, the specialised cinema magazines, including the monographic issue published to coincide with the 1992 retrospective cycle at San Sebastian, as well as the more academic publications or the books published in Spain devoted to Shakespearean directors, such Oliver or Welles, In concludes with an appreciation of the influence of this genre on some recent Spanish films.
