Abstract

Evaluating university competencies presents a great difficulty, the imprecise definition of‘competence’ and the objectivity which has to represent. European Convergence recommendations encourage student participation in his teaching-learning process. To take into account both premises, by teacher, has led to implement a peer assessment experience of first year students at Salamanca University, in Social Work Degree. It has been conducted in a part of its continuous evaluation processin History and Social Action and Social Services Institutional Framework course.

We have designed a rubric to be used by students to evaluate peers oral presentations. It has been as-signed a scale of value to measure competencies.

Conclusions indicate coevaluación is a positive experience for students, doing them protagonists intheir colleagues’ effort and their same; knowing in advance the criteria of evaluation. Also there isdetected the need of a specific formation, for students and teacher, including the raising awareness onthe necessary objectivity that has to exist. Related to the evaluation of the competencies it’s possible to conclude the need of awareness and specific formation to achieve a methodological balance.
