Abstract

The war against the United States represents an inflexion point in the Spanish colonial conflict. Murcia, as other Spanish regions, suffered the effects of this fight. The effects of this conflict were noticed in different ways inside this region. Thus, the agricultural and miner areas suffered an increase in both prices and taxes. All these factors were enough to produce social conflicts and mutinies in the miner areas. However, it was the city of Cartagena, due to its coastal situation and its important military facilities, the place that suffered more closely the disasters of the war.
