Abstract

The Provincial Prison of Murcia (Spain) is an important element of cultural heritage from this city, mainly due to its architectural characteristics and its intense historical content. In spite of everything, this building has suffered a long time of institutional neglect and several proposals for its complete or partial demolition and destruction, but it has survived and today is a basic inheritance in the urban configuration of Murcia City. Therefore, in this article we describe architectural, historical and cultural characteristics of this outstanding inheritance, with the goal of make aware to the society from Murcia that is necessary its maintenance, making a good use of its potential like didactic resource for the education of the local and regional history.
