Abstract

This analysis is an attempt to have a better knowledge of the gipsy people from their arrival in Spain in the 15th century to the present. Their values, culture, customs and lifestyle are generally looked down on, while they merely represent a different set of feelings and beliefs. Hence the effort made by Spanish monarchs and authorities to integrate them into our society. However, this effort has often involved a vain attempt to make this ethnic community disappear. In 1783, a new, more tolerant era began, which will hopefully lead to a more egalitarian legislation for the gypsies living in Spain
