Abstract

Miguel Tacón symbolizes the special transition to liberalism in Cuba, according to an authoritarian model, quite different to the one which existed in the metropolis. His conduct has been (and is) considered very controversial. But he made the Spanish stay possible in the isle at a critical times (the first civil war in 1833-39) and even a certain economic prosperity based in the sugar industry and slave labour.
